About the Event
NYC is heading into another cycle of change shortly after the presidential inauguration. In 2021, we'll elect a new Mayor, a new Comptroller, two District Attorneys, four Borough Presidents, at least 36 new Council Members, and a large turnover of NYC's departmental administration.
It's been a long time since NYC saw such a huge opportunity to have a clean slate and start fresh! In order to start on the right foot however, we must evaluate how the Democratic Party can once again speak to the workers who have seen the brunt of this pandemic, and those who are most vulnerable in the economic turmoil we are experiencing. If we succeed in doing (not just talking about) the work necessary to create housing for low income people, to protect workers' rights, to build & fund schools, to create a sustainable environment, and most importantly, to reboot our economy into one that invests, grows and turns away from austerity cuts - then, and only then - can we start to live up to our Democratic principles. I'm running for City Council because we need to fix this system from the top down to the bottom. We need legislators who will fight for vulnerable communities, and promote organic growth from the inside out, not from private equity partners coming in to decide our fates. We need a plan to prepare against the next superstorm, which will inevitably hit waterfront communities like District 33, by creating natural and accessible waterfront shorelines. We need clean air, water & soil to repair the damage caused by our toxic industrial past. And we need an economic recovery plan that puts workers first, with good union jobs that will put money back in people's pockets and protect them from the encroachments of austerity peddlers. Our work is only just beginning! So join me on Tuesday, December 1st at 6PM for a Zoom Event with some of NYC's most accomplished activists. I'll be discussing a vision for NYC's economic recovery, the People's Bailout, and taking questions from the audience, so RSVP today with a small donation!
